Member Participation

We take vows to live in the world according to the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience to attain Christian perfection and full apostolate. Poverty calls us to detachment from material goods and reminds us of our dependence on God. Members are financially independent and willing to share their treasure, time, and talent with our Institute according to their circumstances. At our consecration we solemnly promise to live a completely chaste and celibate life for the love of God. Obedience includes fidelity to our personal vocation as a member of the DeSales Secular Institute, as well as faithfulness to the Roman Catholic Church and our Salesian spirituality. Membership is open to single, widowed, and divorced (with annulment) Catholic women between 20 and 60 years of age. The spiritual formation process lasts from two to three years.

Associate Participation

Associates are Catholic Christians who want to be part of the Secular Institute of Saint Franics de Sales but who are not able to live according to the Statutes of the Institute (vows, etc.) Most associates are married. The spiritual formation process is approximately one year.
